PDE Annotator is not a "professional editing software suite." If it were, it would cost hundreds of dollars, like other "professional" software packages. You need money to pay programmers to add these features (and autosave would likely require a major rearchitecting to get more efficient PDF file format handling.

I have a MAJOR problem with Pdf Annotator. I just lost about 5 hours of work on an important document because Vista crashed while I was working on a document, and PDF Annotator does NOT MAKE AUTOSAVE backups. This function simply does not exist. I am amazed and perplexed - how can a professional editing software suite NOT HAVE AN AUTOSAVE feature????? I tried looking through all the options, and all the help files - nope, simply no mention of it. I have written to them and I am thinking of demanding my money back - though this will not compensate me for 5 hours of lost work. Perhaps I should ask them for 5 hours of my time priced at $50 per hour. This is completely ridiculous - how can they have managed to omit such a basic feature in a professional editing program????

Greetings Fellow Canadians:

I'm looking for Canadian Bloggers who love Tablet PC's, UMPC's, Mobile Internet Devices.

Actually I have a blog site of my own and am always looking for new material with a Canadian angle.

Personally I'm noticing that in Canada, many companies don't push Tablet PC's, UMPC's, or my favorite Mobile Internet Devices.

So lets change this and help each other by sharing material on these wonderful products.
My blog site is at:http://midees.blogspot.com/.
Feel free to comment.
I'm from Montreal, and I'll be pushing Mobile Internet Devices for Canada.
Lets hear from everyone.

Regards Robert

Here is my map of how to do dual screen in XP

http://www.cabre.co.uk/files/dualscreen/index.html

Love your blog. I have 4xTC11OOs in the house at the moment. Unfortunately I am going to have to give some of them up. Even the 1.2GHz 1.5 GB RAM TC1100 cannot cope with MindManager and Vista. The TC44OO does just! Unfortunately its esthetically and ergonomically backward compared to the TC11OO.

Value Engineering gone wrong!

I am finishing up my MS in Biochemistry. I have used a tablet PC (started with an electrovaya) for all my classes, but then moved to the smaller OQO for my thesis research work in the lab. Here's a website that discusses the idea of using a tablet PC as a research notebook. www.e-lab-book.com

I like your animal tablet domesticity. I drew your cat! Hope that is OK.

I am an avid tablet PC user - doing a 1000 sketches in one year on my M200, and blogging that process.

Yes, definitely a touchpad. That looks sort of like a mini-USB plug at top, doesn't it? That, plus the two buttons (and fingerwells) and the dark grey color of the large rectangle suggest that it's a touchpad.

Hi,
The newer V23i and V33i series Flybooks use Intel chipsets. You can upgrade the RAM also from the standard 512MB. The standard OS is XP Home edition with an upgrade to XP Professional available.

Your efforts are much appreciated. I bought a TC1100 a couple of months ago, and I love it. It wasn't until a week after I bought it that I heard that HP had killed them. I thought about returning it, but it's such a great machine so I held onto it. Too bad HP doesn't just leave well enough alone.

More tidbits appear around the web. Engadget complains that it's just a tablet PC. But that's the point! It's a tablet PC being shaped and marketed for life beyond business applications. Now, I wouldn't buy one of these over and above, or instead of, my tablet PC. I want more screen space. I want something closer to a laptop. But if more and more people realize that tablet PCs are for creative types & for living, then we'll really get somewhere (even more) amazing with this technology!

They didn't use windows tablet because it sucks! This is a great idea, you can feel like you are using a regular computer with the convenience of being able to write directly on the screen. I havn't seen this particular tablet, but I can tell you for sure that the idea is there. I just want to know how many ram slots it has and if you can upgrade the proccesor.

So where ya been? I missed your regular posts while you've been away! I'm not quite sure if my tablet PC has spawned any others - however I constantly bump into people that are very infatuated with my machine! Hopefully I'll have some confirmations one day :)

OK, so I could take it to a business meeting, take notes, and read stuff without the base. I'm curious as to how much can really be done without the "base" portion of this unit. If you have to have the base close by for processing, is it really a Tablet PC (even if it's running Win XP TE or Vista)?
At least with the convertibles you can swing the screen around and pretend the other part's not there (sorry... I had to get a slate/hybrid dig in here somewhere).

Definitely hybrid. TC1000 and TC1100 for me. I was stunned when HP/Compaq canned the TC line; hybrids offer the best of both worlds. Most of the time I just use the slate when teaching, reading, or jotting notes, and it's light. When I need the keyboard however, snap and click--there it is.
TPC manufacturers take heed!

I voted for the convertible. I love my X41. All the convenience of a slate (including a comparable weight to most of them) and I can never forget my keyboard. It does everything I need to do for school.

Honestly, I hadn't noticed that it doesn't have a Windows key...I really don't use it.

Peace,
Cathie

Hybrid. Definitely. The more I use it, the more I appreciate being able to remove the keyboard when I want a slate. Doesn't get any better.

If you need a notebook, get a notebook. The convertibles I've used suffer from too many tradeoffs to make them a good bang-for-the-buck value either as a notebook or a tablet PC.

And I've been particularly underwhelmed with the keyboards on the 'verts I've used - which is their whole raison d'etre! The media darling IBM Thinkpad X41's overly-praised keyboard, for example, doesn't even feature a Windows key (now that's a dealbreaker on *any* keyboard for me, post circa-1995) and the Function key is exactly where the Control key should be.

Embrace the tablet UI and avoid a convertible - you can always hook up a compact USB keyboard (and even a nice optical mouse) if you're in a pinch to do some hardcore data entry. Slates are a better bang-for-buck investment.

I prefer the convertible form.

Why?
As a owner of my own company, do consulting, university teacher and studante, using it for leisure (reading mostly) and other more "hat's" it's the form that does it all in such I prefer the convertible form.

Best success with your site.

I'm a fellow tc1100 addict and really appreciate the fact that it feels so "intended" in both laptop and slate modes. Convertibles always strike me as looking unwieldy and too chunky when their screens are flipped round, while slates with optional keyboards (like the Motions) look a bit 'Heath Robinson'!

Hi Stan,
Lynette and I discussed this morning how to proceed with a post on TheBrain and we'll try and do something shortly. It takes a bit of time and our jobs stand in the way!! One challenge is to show the dynamic nature of TheBrain with jpegs or to find an alternative.
Thanks for the comment! Olga

Ladies...er...girls...er??

Enjoyed your visit with James and Marc and your site and am eager to learn more about your use of MindManager. But, could you share a little more info on how Lynette uses Brain? Like James, I have tried using it several times in the past but actually found it too restrictive for my workstyle. Your description - piles of papers on the desk - caused me to download the demo, again, but I guess I'm locked in my old paradigm and still can't see it as useful.

Thanks

Ugh. I just don't like RitePen at all. Maybe it's just me and others have had better luck with it, but the times that I have tried it it hasn't had nearly the success-rate as the Microsoft TIP at recognizing my handwriting. It also seems to do it's recognition much more slowly, which on my pokey TC1000 is very slow indeed.

Of course it could just be my spectacularly bad handwriting...

Great idea for the MindManager Tablet! Here is an add-in that creates a OneNote page of a map image that you can mark up with your thoughts. It's not exactly what Olga asked for but it's a start:
http://www.mindjet.com/labs/Tablet_Extensions.html

I use an Acer tablet and have been working with tablet computers since the age of Pen Computing (see http://www.charette.com/articles/index.html) so I know how great tablet computers could be!

Great site and podcast!

And do, please, put up pictures of your "Brains."

The combination of Firefox and Adobe Acrobat seems particularly toxic. I often think how much I must love Firefox, to go on using it despite its crashing and despite the fact that the tablet input panel doesn't work with it.

It's "flicking" links to new tabs and the web developer's toolbar that keeps me committed.
